First Stop in the Morning - Convoy Meets at Mohan Port

A Malaysian road trip convoy enters China through Mohan Port. The first morning, meeting at a gas station, hot soy milk, heading to Kunming.

Morning sunlight spills across the convenience store glass. The silver MPV sits quietly in its parking spot, still dusted from last night's drive.

This is the first morning for Ah Ming's family after entering China from Malaysia. The car just filled up with gas. The white SUV next to them is their travel companion. They agreed to meet here, then head together toward Kunming.

The convenience store door slides open, and cool air carries the aroma of steamed buns. Ah Ming's wife walks out carrying two cups of hot soy milk, smiling: "I didn't expect gas stations in China to be so clean, and have such good food."

The sky above is impossibly blue, with a few wispy clouds drifting slowly by. Ah Ming leans against the hood, looking at the dense route on his navigation map, full of anticipation—entering through Mohan Port, passing through Xishuangbanna, then Dali and Lijiang, and finally driving Route 318 into Tibet. This trip they've planned for three whole years.

"Let's go!" his wife waves. "More beautiful scenery waits ahead."

The engine roars to life. A new journey begins.
